Sigma expands cooperation with Kockums

Sigma and Kockums have signed an exclusive agreement for the joint marketing and further development of digital information systems (DIS). The two companies have also renewed their framework agreement regarding consulting support. Partnership agreement pertaining to digital information systems (DIS) The partnership agreement for the joint marketing and further development of DIS remains in effect until 2010. The agreement represents the continuation of cooperation that was initiated five years ago when Kockums secured an order for new Visby-class corvettes from the Swedish Defense Matériel Administration. One of the requirements specified when the new vessels were ordered was that all documentation on board should be electronic, the reason being that paper documentation is difficult to track, is heavy and takes up a lot of space on board. Sigma was assigned the task of developing a digital solution that would structure the information and facilitate updating. Other requirement specifications were that the solution should be web-based and license-free and provide an extremely high level of security. The application has been enthusiastically received by its users in the Swedish Navy, and Kockums and Sigma now see considerable potential for using the system in other applications, both in the defense sphere and for business purposes. The partnership was initiated in 2002, when Sigma became Kockums’ principal supplier of solutions for document-handling, intranet and publication of technical documentation.
